Well, it's a couple months into summer, so I wanted to share with you all the progress I've noticed on the goals that I shared with you a couple months ago! 1. Grow a garden that's even better than last year's garden! Well, as of right now, the garden is very weedy, but I have been doing better with maintaining the grass clipping mulch carpet, and the plants seem to generally be doing well, so this goal is slightly successful. A basket full of this success is pictured on the left, it has grape tomatoes, basil leaves, and snap peas. Yummy! 2. Do a lot of downsizing Honestly, I haven't made much progress on this goal so far this summer. Whenever I find an article of clothing in the closet that I know I won't wear anymore, I definitely get rid of it, but that's about it. Now that I am finished with my summer class I plan on devoting more of my time to this goal! I have relatives coming into town soon, so that gives me a little motivation to clean up my stuff and make the house nice for their visit. 3. Finish Projects I've just recently started working on this goal again, since my summer class is now finished. I've finished a pair of baby socks and a pair of fingerless mitts, which are both super easy projects, and were almost done anyway. I've also done some work on two intricate projects as well, some colorwork socks and beaded, cabled gloves, both of which I started about two years ago! I still have quite a way to go before I'm finished with either one of those projects, though. I also started a new project, the Laurelie Shawl. I'm hoping to make a blog post about that project soon! 4. Preserve lots of homemade food I can't even really work on this one yet because we're not harvesting enough tomatoes yet, and there are no applesauce apples yet!! But hopefully I will be able to work on this goal before the school year gets too crazy. 5. Get better at cooking I HAVE made progress on this goal! I've learned to cook a whole chicken and make broth from it, I've made homemade alfredo sauce and pesto, and several other food adventures this summer! I'll even include pictures down below, as proof. 6. Learn to tat I have actually accomplished this goal!!! A tatting shop opened up recently, and it's about ten minutes away from my college, so I've gotten to go there a couple times and purchase the basics that I needed to teach myself to tat. I got to practice tatting a lot on vacation, and I'm including a picture of the biggest/best project I've made so far. It's just a heart motif, probably about four inches wide and four inches long. I was so proud of myself when I finished it! 7. "Early to bed, early to rise"
This goal is still hard for me, but it's surprisingly getting less painful each morning. I've found that I ABSOLUTELY MUST get to bed at a decent time, though, or the next morning is a trainwreck. Most mornings I end up crawling out of bed closer to 6:30 or 6:45, instead of 6:00 like I always shoot for. Mondays tend to be easier because I had a nap on Sunday, so I'm somewhat caught up on my sleep. By Wednesday or Thursday, however, if I don't get to bed by 10:30, the next morning is nearly impossible! Thankfully my mom will make sure I'm awake in time to go to work, but I know I need to make early mornings a habit that I can sustain when I go back to school and don't have someone to wake me up each day. Well, those are all the updates right now. I hope your summer is going well, and that you are making progress on your goals too! Don't be afraid to be creative, Nicole
