People, it's summer!! If you are a student, like I am, summer is your time of freedom, to do anything you want and not be hindered by a homework load or class schedule. For me, summer means gardening, knitting, reading, watching TV shows and movies, blogging (obviously!), and generally trying to get my life together!
Well, as I've said previously on this blog, one of my goals for this summer is to start a habit of waking up earlier, and a huge part of making this goal attainable for me is having a solid, doable morning routine. This routine helps motivate me in the mornings, especially for those days when I get out of bed and can't function well enough to plan what to do next to get ready. With a set morning routine, I don't have to try to think, I just get up and do what I already have planned. Each morning I try to wake up at 6am, but often lately it's 6:30 before I'm out of bed. After that, I'm generally not awake enough to function very well, so I head to the kitchen to stuff my face with a bowl of cereal. (That is one thing I can do when I'm half asleep!) After breakfast and making a cup of tea, I head to my room and get ready. This usually involves burning a candle and slowly drinking my tea while I'm getting dressed, putting some makeup on, and reading a chapter of the Bible. Once I'm all ready and done in my room, I blow out the candle and go out to the kitchen to pack my lunch (if I didn't do that earlier when I was in the kitchen for breakfast) and get ready to head out the door. From start to finish, my morning routine can take about an hour, sometimes a little longer. I'll include my detailed schedule below. 6:00 - alarm goes off, I usually hit snooze once or twice 6:20 - I actually get out of bed! (Celebrate the little successes!!) 6:30 - I succeed in stumbling into the kitchen and starting the hot water for tea. I usually eat a simple breakfast while I wait for the tea to steep. 6:45 - done with breakfast, *try to* pack my lunch and fix my tea with milk and sugar 7:00 - head to my room, light a candle and drink my tea as I get dressed and *maybe even* put makeup on 7:10 - spend a little time reading the Bible! 7:20 - pack lunch (if not already done), blow out candle, finish off tea, throw shoes on, pack up everything I'll need for the day, and leave for work I ride with my mom to work to save gas, we work about 20 min apart from each other, so we drive to her work and drop her off before 8, then I take the car on to my job, and get there a little after 8. Then my daily routine at work starts! I hope this post has been inspirational to you! And believe me, I am NOT a morning person, so if I can do this, you can DEFINITELY do it too! The key is getting enough sleep, so I do sacrifice a bit of my evening in order to get enough sleep to do this routine each morning. Don't be afraid to be creative, Nicole
